Queens of Fennbirn Three Dark Crowns Kendare Blake Books
There are two stories in this compendium: one focuses on the three queens from the man series, and one on a queen from the past. The stories were beautifully written as always, but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed. While the first half of this collection does fill in a lot of gaps with scenes the book series has often alluded to, and I loved getting to see Caragh and Matthew's romance in full bloom, the one thing I expected to read was how Jules and Joseph hatched a scheme to get Arsinoe away from Fennbirn and how the whole thing went down. That is not in the book. Instead we read the aftermath, when their punishment was decided. I was let down because we already knew what the punishment was; I wanted to see exactly whose idea it all was and how things went awry. But we did get a glimpse into the girls' youths, and I was especially shocked by the events during the first three years Mirabella spent in Rolanth.
The second half of the book takes place 500 years in the past. The previous two books have mentioned that any queen born with the Sight is killed to prevent her from becoming mad, and here we find out why. This story made me feel really sad and frustrated for Queen Elsabet. But I was more sad and frustrated that the story drops off and you don't actually see what happens. You can assume how it will all end, but there were so many questions left unanswered, I just didn't feel satisfied that there was any sort of conclusion.
So...even though there were some let-downs, it was that there wasn't enough to leave me completely satisfied as a reader, not that what we were given was by any means disappointing. This series always leaves me wanting more and I would definitely say this volume is a must-have for fans of the series.

Queens of Fennbirn Three Dark Crowns Kendare Blake Books Reviews
great series
great read
The book arrived in great condition, and the short stories were very intriguing.
This series has got me hooked! I cant wait for the author to write more.... and faster!
It was great to have a book from Kendare Blake to pass the time before the next Three Dark Crowns book! I loved seeing how the young Queens grew up and how they were shaped by their environments. As for the Oracle Queen... the betrayals... the bitter bitter betrayals.
I loved learning the back stories of the Mad queen and the three current triplets. Great novellas and added a lot to the main story. I wish we could have more of the mad queen. That was my favorite story.
I absolutely adored this book! It was great to get some background on the triplets and the oracle queen.
Kendare weaves a feeling a magic into her books that traps you into finishing them. This book is no exception.
Just remember, you can’t believe everything you hear. Not everyone is who you think they are.
