So much happening and constant nail biting. So incredibly good. I really enjoyed it. Two things I was a little disappointed in though. Although, they were in constant contact, not much interaction between Michael and Raine till almost the end. I know it's more urban fantasy than paranormal romance. But the romance was one thing that I loved about the series. It did end up being okay because of their conversation at the end. Another thing, it seemed like it was more about other people than Raine. Raine is the main protagonist of course and it's from her POV, so you see things happening through her eyes. But not much was happening with her until near the end. I think mainly because they were in Regor - Goblin territory, and because she lost something that was a big part of her. One character that I ended up loving second after Raine, Kesyn Badru. He is hilarious, snarky, grizzly and knows it all. I loved his quips and how he reacted to certain situations. Just a great character. All in all, I did enjoy this book. So happy to know that there's going to be a seventh book. :-)

All Spell Breaks Loose Raine Benares Book 6 edition by Lisa Shearin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Reading some of the other reviews, I will not repeat most of it but I will agree with most of them. This series was amazing, each story was well written, the characters were thought out and developed so much that you just have to ask things like "Now, what has Talon gotten himself into?" (and of course if you know talon you know it is seriously wrong. But onto the story

It is a shortly after the events of Con and Conjure, and as the party gets ready to invade Regilor, Sarad Napukta launches an attack on the Isle of Mid - forcing the group to run into the only way to get there, a mirror with one of Raine's personal pains in the backside Carnades controlling it. When they get there, only a few of the original party got through, but they brought along two tag-alongs, Parais and Talon. Once there they learn that things are much worse than they tought and are in a race against time to stop the mad shaman and his king before they use the full power of the Saghred (the other pain in the backside)on an unsuspecting world.

Overall the book was great and despite being the end or this series, I think there might be more Raines Benares stories on the horizon (there are enough story hooks out there to keep it going). So enjoy this and hope like I do that something on the horizon will show up like a Baneres "merchant" ship.
I feel like I'm just writing "What fun!" and "Great read!" over and over again each time I review Lisa Shearin's Raine Benares series. She really delineates her characters in such a way that you care about them and can't wait to get more. For those not familiar with the series, she writes fast-paced, witty, humorous repartee with excellent plotting and characterizations about a great world of magicians, elves, goblins, and lots of other supernaturals.
I am very sad to see the Raine Benares series end, but I absolutely loved this book. First of all, this cover is gorgeous. This cover model finally matches how I picture Raine in my head and I am so very happy for that. The story that has been building through the past five books is finally wrapped up here and I couldn't have been happier with how it ended. Lisa Shearin has created one of my favorite series, and if she ever decides to revisit this world, I will be first in line to plunk down my money.

Throughout the books, the main characters have been Raine, Mychael, and Tam. We get to spend a lot of time with all three in this novel and I have to say that I love when they work together. Raine is such a fantastic character. She's self-confident but still questions herself and her true motivations. She has incredible amounts of heart, is a very strong person, and able to hold her own without super duper magic powers. The amount she has grown and changed over the past five books is amazing. Mychael has become one of my favorite leading men. He is steady, dependable, and quick-witted. His Black Cat background came as a bit of surprise, but now fits true within his characterization. I love the passion between him and Raine. I think they make a wonderful couple. Tam, the resident goblin mage, is amazing. He's not above using black magic when absolutely necessary, but he knows that he is endangering his soul at the same time. He is crafty and cunning, but cares deeply for those closest to him. I don't normally like love triangles. In this series, not only did I love it, I fully encouraged it. Both men were desirable for different reasons and they both had sizzling chemistry with Raine. Even though he didn't end up with Raine, I am glad it seems like Tam will be getting his HEA too.

While I missed having Phaelan, Valerius, and Vegard around, I enjoyed getting to spend more time with the other main supporting characters. Piaras and Talon were adorable as always and both managed to get themselves into trouble and come out of it heroes. I absolutely loved seeing Piaras with his inhibitions lowered. He is going to be a very scary, spell-singing warrior. Imala was also part of the journey and she is such a great character. She is a perfect foil for Tam and it is obvious that she still carries deep feelings for him. We also meet Tam's family and suffice it to say, the apple did not fall far from the tree. His family are the leaders of the rebellion and they are just as brave as Tam. I loved the scenes were Tam introduced them to Talon. They were so sweet. Tam's old magic teacher, Kesyn Badru, lends his aid to the group as well. He was absolutely hilarious but his concern for Tam and the effects black magic have had and could continue to have on him was very touching. I wish he had been in more books!

Our brave crew is on the way to Regor to reclaim the Saghred and stop Sarad Nukpana. The only drawback is that they must travel by mirror and their only choice of mirror mage is Silvanus Carnades! Once in Regor, the tight spots don't end and our heroes find themselves facing more danger than ever. The stakes are the highest they've been throughout the series and the tension doesn't let up until the end. All Spell Breaks Loose was a fitting end to the Saghred saga and I loved every bit of it. The six books combined tell one over-arching story and since they are all released, now's the perfect time to pick them up if you haven't already!
I do so love these books! This one was very exciting, even more so because there was some conclusion to the ongoing mystery and adventure, and the satisfaction of a number of the villains meeting their end and getting their just desserts. I love the action and the character development, and I am very happy with the degree of romance thrown in for spice. Continuing to read these in order, and looking forward to continuing the adventure.
