A new author has taken the Blood by storm. Jarvis Jenkell is a famous author among the landen. He has just learned that he is Blood and has decided to write a semi-autobiographical mystery series. Unfortunately, he doesn't know anything about actually being a member of the Blood and his attempts are laughable - to the Blood.Jenkell's book gives Jaenelle an idea. She and Marian are going to create a "spooky house" that plays up to the landen's stereotypes of the Blood. Neither Daemon or Lucivar are really excited about this idea but they have a hard time saying no to Jaenelle.
Jenkell also has plans for a "spooky house." He wants to get back at the Blood who laughed at him. He is particularly angry at the SaDiablo family. He sends invitations to Lucivar, Daemon, and Surreal. Lucivar and Daemon don't respond for one reason or another but Surreal does and takes along her friend Warlord Prince Rainier.
Soon Surreal and Rainier find themselves trapped in Jenkell's house along with seven young adults. Everywhere they turn they find traps and dangers that they need to survive. They also need to find a way out without using Craft because each use of Craft closes one of the exits. Closing them all will leave them trapped forever.
Once Jaenelle, Daemon and Lucivar discover Jenkell's house, they have to find a way to outwit him and get their friends out. Jenkell will soon find out what it means to anger a Black-Jeweled Warrior Prince and Eyrien Warlord. And Jaenelle isn't pleased either!
I enjoyed this story despite a lot of spooky parts. Giggling spiders! Beetles! I loved seeing Daemon and Jaenelle's relationship now that they aren't in the middle of saving the world.

Tangled Webs Black Jewels Book 6 Anne Bishop 9780451461605 Books Reviews
I'm new to the Anne Bishop Black Jewels series but have devoured the trilogy and the anthology. To my delight I found this sequel. Anne Bishop's dialogue between the characters is always witty and often leaves me laughing out loud and my husband wondering what the heck I'm reading.
This book will give more insight into the interpersonal relationships in the SaDiablo family as well as some of their extended "relatives". Some reviewers complained about the time it took to get to the meat of the book (being trapped in the spooky house) but I actually enjoyed that. Too often authors slam your face into the action in the first pages of the book and then try to explain things along the way. This was a pleasant build up which, even if you know they will be trapped, made the actual action that much more nail-biting.
This was not my favorite in this series, that's for sure. The blood is back, only this time a Landen has discovered he's more than he thought. He decides to make a spooky house and "write" about what he sees. Only he's picked the wrong family to mess with!
Once again Anne Bishop does not disappoint. A writers attempts at writing books about the Bloods are very popular. The Bloods are reading them, too, but not because they are less realistic than laughable. He finds out they are laughing at his work and decides to find out what they are really like and punish them for their lack of respect. Meanwhile Janelle is planning a lesson of her own. I loved this, loved the characters, as usual and am going on to the next book in this series.
This book had an extremely different feel to it than the rest of the Black Jewels books have had. It reads like the literary equivalent of the ‘special Halloween episode’. That gave it the feel of an interlude episode, and perhaps contributed to the lack of deep emotional connection. That shows how deep and emotional the other books get, because this isn’t exactly light reading. There are children in danger, and Bishop doesn’t spare children from the darkness of her tales.
The room-to-room search, complete with the members of Surreal’s group getting mysteriously separated, provided plenty of thrills, chills, and danger. There’s a man behind it all who wants to take down the SaDiablo family, but he’ll come to regret that.
I have two things in this book that felt insufficiently justified. For one, the man who goes after Daemon, Surreal, and Lucivar, while obviously unstable, didn’t read as completely psychotic before people reached the haunted house. Also, given his low level of power, I had difficulty buying into the idea that he was able to kill two Black Widow witches, among others.
Thus, while I did enjoy Tangled Webs, it didn’t pull me in the way all of the previous Black Jewels books have.
Note that there’s also a short story featuring Surreal at the end of the book, called “By the Time the Witchblood Blooms”. It’s a great little interlude that calls back to Surreal’s days as a high-end prostitute and assassin. It’s short but interesting.
